A ceasefire that may be enforced in Yemen next to coincide with UN-brokered peace talks will benefit the rebels, a national resistance commander has said.

Hamoud Al Mikhlafi, chairman of the military council in the Southwestern Taiz governorate, said the resistance does not count much on the peace negotiations between the legitimate government and the Iranian-backed rebels in Geneva.

"We do not count much on these talks…UN resolution 2216 must be implemented by the rebels while the swords remain over their head and the coalition jets and warship bomb them as we close in on them," he told the Saudi daily Sharqalawsat.

"A dialogue will not work with these insurgents…their attempt to seek a ceasefire is only to gain time because they will not respect their promises."

He said the rebels have moved a large part of army loyal to deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh and military equipment which had been stationed in the South and other areas to Taiz and surrounding areas.

"They are still moving their forces to Taiz....most of the militias belonging to this insane Houthi leader Abdul Malik Alhouthi have also been moved to Taiz," he said.

"They want the battle to be here in Taiz not in Sanaa and Saada…they are trying to stop us from going to Sanaa, Omran and Saada to liberate them."
