Animal Planet to launch cooking show

Animal Planet announced Tuesday the channel's "foray in the food genre" with a new series about a Vegan bake mistress.

The Discovery Communications channel ordered 12-episodes of "Sweet Avenger" featuring Vegan Treats founder Danielle Konya and her "mission to save animals one cupcake at a time," the network said in a statement.

Konya, 36, is an avid-animal activist who established her vegan bake shop to prove animal products are not necessary to produce delectable deserts.

"I want to show people that by eating a vegan confection, you're directly saving the lives of cows, chickens and thereby the environment and habitats of thousands of other exotic species," she said.

"There's nothing appetizing about the suffering of 10 billion animals a year, and my treats can satisfy both the palate and the conscience," she added.

The series will premiere this summer.
