Beware of sharks during full moons

This is no old wive's tale. Killer sharks are driven by the moon!

Jean Baptiste-Pool, who has hunted sharks since he was a boy, was quoted as saying by 'The Sun' that he knew the beast would claim a victim around the same time a honeymoon Briton was killed recently.

He has predicted the shark will be back between next Monday and September 1. "The highest risk is around three days after the moon is new or full.

He could kill again any time after August 29," said Baptiste-Pool.

An IT consultant Ian Redmond, 30, and 32-year-old French tourist Nicolas Virolle was also killed around the new moon.

The moon's phases, which govern global tides, have helped trawlermen predict the movement and behaviour of fish and sharks.

Marine biologist Geremy said: "Lunar cycles control tidal height and range which can affect sharks' movements.

Fishermen also say the moon influences sharks' behaviour.
