Bird takes part in funeral

A bird was among the participants in a funeral of a dead Saudi man and a newspaper described this as a good omen for the deceased.

The Saudi Arabic language daily Sharq ran a 41-second film showing the little bird perched on top of the coffin, undisturbed by the large crowd in the funeral which took place in a little town in the eastern province of Qateef this week.

As several men carrying the coffin shoved their way through the massive crowd to bury the dead, the bird remained in its place without showing any fear.

“It was the second incident of its kind in Saudi Arabia,” the paper said. “According to scholars, this incident is a good omen because the bird signifies purity, goodness and benevolence.”
