Obese babies to be treated in the womb

BRITAIN: In what is looked at as a new attempt to halt the spread of obesity epidemic, overweight mothers-to-be will be given pills to cut the risk of having a fat child.

So, now babies will receive medication while they nestle in the womb to ensure that they pop out fit and fine, reports Daily Mail.

The NHS trial has attracted a lot of controversy but doctors believe that some action needs to be taken now and the diabetic pills will go a long way in ensuring the health of the little ones in future. More than 15 per cent of pregnant women are obese and big babies are around twice as likely to grow into overweight adults, said the daily.

However, those who are unhappy with the way the trial is proceeding feel that a little exercise and diet can do wonders and that is the route that should be followed instead of promoting the pop-the-pill culture.

The Daily Mail recently revealed that the number of newborns weighing more than 11lb soared by 50 per cent over the last four years.

Wife burns hubby to death in a fit of rage

A 56-year-old man met a horrific end when he was burnt to death by his wife in a fit of rage in Dehradun.

The victim, ironically  a policeman by profession, died of 80 per cent burns after his wife pored a bottle of fuel on him ad set him alight, reports Press Trust of India.

The couple were involved in a heated argument just before the horrific incident took place. The woman had threatened to set herself on fire but when her husband dared her to do so, she got angry and poured petrol on him and set him on fire.

Although her husband was rushed to a hospital nearby, looking at his extensive injuries, he was referred to a hospital in the Indian capital. The man lost his battle with life due to the extensive damage caused by burns.
