Man survives fall from 9th floor... but breaks almost every bone in his body

(AGENCIES)

BRITAIN: You would have thought that falling more than 100ft from the ninth storey of a tower block would be enough to kill you instantly.

But that's not the case for father-of-one, Angelo Nicotra, who cheated death and survived such a fall from his flat in Birmingham.

Admittedly he broke practically every bone in his body when he landed on the concrete pavement below, but the 22-year-old is now making a good recovery and is ready to go home.

He fell from the balcony while on sleeping tablets, which he believes led to hallucinations.

He was taken to Heartlands Hospital where he has had eight operations to treat his shattered ankles, pelvis, arms, heels and jaw following the accident in the Ward End area of the city three days after Christmas.

The fall has left the once toned and muscled young man in a poor physical condition.

But now, three months after the accident, he is finally ready to leave hospital to spend more time at home with his son, Angelo Junior, and he has now moved to a new flat. This time on the ground floor.

At the time of the incident he said he was on sleeping pills following relationship problems and being unable to find a job, leaving him depressed.

He said: 'I think I must have been hallucinating. I can't remember the fall at all and just remember waking up in hospital.

'I broke nearly every bone in my body and it has been a long slog. I had to have two metal rods coming out of my pelvis and I didn't know if I would ever walk again.

'But I survived and that makes you think about life and everything you have got. I've got a son and I will be here for him.

Girl, 12, gives birth on school trip

(AGENCIES)

HOLLAND: A 12-YEAR-OLD Dutch girl gave birth while on a school trip, sparking a police search yesterday for the father of the child.

The girl, from Groningen, 183km north-east of Amsterdam, complained of stomach pains on March 22, during a day out with classmates.

Teachers realised the girl was in labour and called an ambulance.

Ambulance officers rushed to the scene, and the 12-year-old delivered a healthy baby girl in a nearby building.

The young mother was then taken to the hospital but has refused to name the father.

Family members said that the schoolgirl's father previously sexually abused another older daughter and served two years in jail for the sex crime, according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
The girl was living with her father and brother after he won custody following a divorce from their mother, who was originally from Suriname, a former Dutch colony in South America.

The girl's stepsister, 30, told the newspaper, "I warned him. I am shocked about what happened."

Dutch police said in a statement yesterday: "The girl got pregnant when she was 11, which in itself means there has been a criminal offence. Article 244 of the Penal Code, sex with a minor under 12, is punishable. In addition, there are now [circumstances] reported by the Child Protection Board. Taking these two circumstances, the police is now investigating who the father [of this baby] is."

The girl was due to go into foster care once she was released from the hospital.

Terrified it might enter her house she phoned police, her local MP and Wyong Council who gave her several numbers to call for help.

However, the numbers were either disconnected or didn’t answer.
