Wife, son abducted after man fails to repay loan

INDIA: A man with a young family comprising his wife and infant son were leading a hard life on the meagre earnings that he brought in from his jewellery-making job in the western state of Gujarat.

The man, originally from Kolkata, had migrated to Gujarat to earn a living, reports The Times of India.

Unable to make his ends meet, the man borrowed Rs3 lakh (Dh20,000) from his money-lending colleague at a high interest rate.

The man had only been paying his colleague the interest every month. However, when he lost his job suddenly, the lender wanted the principal back.

The man was able to return half the principal and returned to his native state to borrow the rest in order to pay off his colleague.

However, the lender refused to allow him to take his wife and son back to Kolkata until he repaid the entire amount.

While the man struggled to collect the cash he needed, his lender upped the amount and said that the interest on the borrowed money had accumulated and was now around Rs3 lakh (Dh20,000 approximately).

Meanwhile, the lender abducted his wife and child and threatened to kill them or sell them off if he wasn't paid the amount in full.

The borrower finally asked for help from the local politicians in Kolkata who mediated and got his wife and son back from Gujarat to Kolkata.
