Bizarre: Woman sues couple over slavery

Published

NEW YORK: An Indonesia worker has accused a couple living in Hampton of slavery.

The woman from Bali has sued a prominent couple who live in a street named after their family for allegedly treating her as an indentured servant for three years, reports New York Post.

She claims the couple promised to pay her $450 every month for working 9am to 5pm. She was also promised a room and board as well as permanent legal status in the US.

However, the employers did not keep their promise and made her work 15 hours a day and paid her $100 less. She was given leftover food to eat and hot dogs.

Rapist jailed for trying to kidnap girls

IRELAND: A 43-year-old repeat sexual offender was put behind bars for 13 years after he tried to force a teenager into the back of his van on Midlands road.

The 13-year-old girl struggled to get free and even lost her top in the ensuing fight. She still pursued her efforts and kicked and bit him even as she lay half naked on the ground, reports The Irish Sun.

Once the case was heard in court, another young woman approached the court to inform that she too was attacked by the same man who was driving a white van. The rapist admitted that he tried to abduct the 20-year-old woman.

He tried to get her into his van but fled the scene when he saw a lorry approaching him.

The man has been jailed earlier for seven years for raping a 12-year-old. The man's driving licence has been taken away and he has been banned from driving for life.

Boyfriend shoots girlfriend's family

MIAMI: Police in Miami were searching Sunday for a man accused of shooting at least three people in an apparent domestic dispute and who has said he will not surrender.

After wounding three victims, who were being treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, officials were concerned he would wound more victims on the streets, according to Miami Herald.

Erin Cash, 23, was wanted on charges of attempted murder.

"He has said he will not go down without a fight and those are very dangerous words," Miami-Dade Police Det. William Moreno said.

As of Sunday night, the suspect remained at large. Moreno said the incident started when officers responded to a call at 8 am from a woman who claimed she had been beaten by Cash, her child's father.

Cash then fled the scene with the couple's 3-year-old son and threatened to harm the mother and child, Moreno said.

Cash later dropped off the boy at his mother's house unharmed. Police said Cash then drove around looking for his girlfriend's brother and began firing shots once he found him.

Another brother and a bystander were also shot as Cash continued shooting, police said. Cash’s car, a white 2006 Pontiac with a damaged gas tank, was found parked in his home at 1255 NW 72nd St., the Miami Herald reports.

The detective said Cash told them he would not surrender. (AP)

BOSTON: The father of a 5-year-old Rockland boy whose hand was severed in a freak accident last month has sued the child's grandmother over the incident.

The Bangor Daily News reports that a lawsuit was filed July 18 in Knox County Superior Court by Anthony Pignone of Dennis, Mass., against Sharon Setz of Rockland.

The boy was a passenger in Setz's car on June 26 when he tied a jump rope around one his wrist and dangled the other end out the window.

The rope got caught on the vehicle's wheel and severed his hand.

The hand was reattached at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston during a 14-hour surgery. (AP)

Man who lost hand charged with feeding gator

FLORIDA: A Florida airboat captain whose hand was bitten off by a 9-foot alligator faces charges of feeding of the animal.

Collier County Jail records show 63-year-old Wallace Weatherholt was charged Friday with unlawful feeding of an alligator and later posted $1,000 bond.

His next court date is August 22.

The arrest was first reported by the Fort Myers News-Press.

Weatherholt was attacked on June 12th as he was giving an Indiana family a tour of the Everglades.

The family said Weatherholt hung a fish over the side of the boat and had his hand at the water's surface when the alligator attacked.

Wildlife officers tracked and euthanized the gator.

Weatherholt's hand was found but could not be reattached. A criminal investigation followed.
