If you are a customer of a popular restaurant and heard that chopped donkey limbs were found nearby, what would be the first idea that could jump to your mind….
The answer could be found in a Saudi town, where residents are still horribly speculating whether they had eaten donkey meat.
The Saudi Arabic language daily Sabq said it had been flooded by public calls after it published what it described as chopped donkey limbs next to a popular restaurant in the southwestern town of Balujrashi.
“The pictures obtained by Sabq showed hands of a donkey had been chopped in the same way as in abattoirs….the pictures have caused panic among residents, some of whom said would not be surprised to see donkey meat inside restaurants given the large number of
donkeys in the area,” it said.
It quoted municipality director Mohammed Al Faqih as saying they had opened an investigation into the incident. He said he believes the chopped donkey limbs were left by zoo workers who could be feeding zoo animals donkey meat.
“I can tell you that it is impossible that restaurants are serving donkey meat…we are still investigating and will have answers within a week,” he said.
