A skin expert has claimed pollution from regular commuting can age your skin by 10 years.

Skin expert Lorena Öberg has issued a warning to commuters for long-term skin damage as she believes pollution in the air can cause long lasting dermatological effects which can reduce levels of collagen, the structural protein our skin relies on to remain elasticated.

She told The Sun newspaper: "Pollution particles can find their way onto your skin and get absorbed into your pores.

"As the affects of very high pollution can include premature ageing and dehydrated skin - the area's of the skin and problems which occur are pretty much the same."

And Lorena says the best way to prevent skin damage whilst commuting is to keep hydrated by drinking water.

She added: "The best ways to prevent this are the simplest, yet most militant.

"Rehydrate your skin by drinking plenty of water - this helps restore balance.

"Wash your skin thoroughly and do it as soon as you get home from a highly polluted area."
