Crazy World: Step-dad cuts boy's finger off with scissors

Published

Malaysia: An eight-year-old boy is rescued for the second time in his life... from his own family. Three years ago, his mother, a single parent was allegedly abusing him.

This time he has made the headlines because of his stepfather who has been accused of cutting the little boy's finger with a pair of scissors.

In 2009, medical practitioners were horrified to see the evidence of abuse. He had fresh scars on top of old injuries.

Medical staff then confirmed that bruises, cane marks, cuts and swellings on the boy were not self-inflicted, reports Asia One. The boy was sent back to his home after treatment.

The boy who weighs a mere 21kg also has a scalded hand because his stepdad dipped his hand in boiling hot water.

Neighbours confirmed that they heard the boy's parents shouting at him quite often.

Dad throws 3-month old daughter from bridge

US: A New Jersey man accused of throwing his 3-month-old daughter off a bridge repeatedly confessed to investigators, prosecutors said in opening statements Wednesday of the father's murder trial.

Shamsid-Din Abdur-Raheem's own words will help show he's guilty of murder, the prosecution said. But defence lawyers told reporters they will prove reasonable doubt, The Star-Ledger reported.

The trial is expected to take about three weeks.

Abdur-Raheem is charged in the death of Zara Malani-lin Abdur-Raheem.

Prosecutors claim Abdur-Raheem abducted the baby from her grandmother's East Orange apartment in February 2010, assaulting the woman and hitting her with his van. They say he then parked on the Driscoll Bridge on the Garden State Parkway and threw the baby into the Raritan River.

The baby's body was found several weeks later along the riverbank by passersby.

The child's mother, Venetta Benjamin, had sole custody of the infant and had left her in her mother's care while she sought a restraining order against Abdur-Raheem in a Newark court.

Besides the murder count, the 24-year-old former Galloway Township resident faces charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault and child endangerment.

Abdur-Raheem's father, Mushin Raheem, has said the relationship between his son and Benjamin, who are not married, had been bumpy since they started dating as freshmen at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

The trial is expected to take about three weeks. The state Attorney General's Office is prosecuting the case because it involves incidents in Essex and Middlesex counties. (AP)

Teen killed girl over Facebook taunts

HOLLAND: A Dutch court has jailed a teenager for stabbing a 15-year-old girl to death and attempting to kill her father after she allegedly posted derogatory comments about another girl on Facebook.

The boy, identified as 15-year-old Jing Hua K, was jailed for a year and ordered to spend at least two years in a psychiatric facility to be "treated for his problems" after the January 14 murder in the eastern Dutch city of Arnhem.

The sentence is the maximum in the Netherlands for a minor.

"The court is of the opinion the defendant deliberately killed" Joyce Hau, known as Winsie to her friends, as well as attempted to murder her father, judges said in a verdict posted online.

Prosecutors told the court the murder happened after Joyce had a fight on the social networking site with a 16-year-old friend identified as Polly W. and her 17-year-old boyfriend Wesley C.

Wesley C then allegedly phoned and spoke to Jing Hua K. via Facebook to arrange the killing, and also allegedly discussed the possibility of killing Hau's entire family.

Jing Hua K went to Joyce's house, saying he had something to give her. When she came to the door he repeatedly stabbed her with a knife and then attacked her father, scarring his face for life, the court heard. The teenager died in hospital five days later.

"With the knife he deliberately stabbed her in the neck and face to take her life," judges said. The girl was left "in a lake of blood" and died in hospital five days later.

"The defendant did not know Winsie personally but he acted at the request of or on the instructions of another or others," the verdict said.

Prosecutors said Polly's boyfriend Wesley C. had on December 9 last year asked Jing Hua K. "to silence someone."

During the case, witnesses testified that Jing Hua K was promised 150 euros ($183) if he carried out the murder.

In their sentencing, judges also said the troubled teen suffered from "a serious behavioural disorder with psychopathic traits."

Jing Hua's mother said her son had previously offered other teens money if they would play with him, according to the indictment.

Court spokesman Jaap Otten said that the details of the Facebook comments could not be discussed pending the trial of Polly W and Wesley C, for which no date has yet been set. (AFP)
