Techie kills wife, chops her body into pieces

In a gruesome incident, a software engineer allegedly killed his wife, cut the body into pieces and hid it in a deep freezer for nearly two months, police Told the Times of India.

The incident came to light when brother of the 33-year-old victim Anupama Gulati lodged a police complaint after he did not get satisfactorily reply from the engineer about his sister's whereabouts. Acting on the complaint, police arrested Anupama's husband Rajesh (37), who hailed from Delhi, from his rented accommodation at Prakash Vihar area. During interrogation, he confessed to have murdered his wife on October 17, police said.

According to Dehra Dun SSP G S Martolia, Rajesh banged Anupama's head against a wall following a quarrel after which she fell unconscious. Later, he strangulated her in a fit of rage, cut the body into pieces and stashed them into a deep freezer. In the meantime, Rajesh told his two twin kids — aged four years — that their mother had gone to Delhi. He also told Anupama's brother Sujan that his relations with her had improved. However, Sujan grew suspicious and came to Dehra Dun on Saturday to inquire about his sister. The couple had settled down in Dehra Dun 18 months ago.

Feminists 'urinate' on all-male cabinet

(AGENCY)

Dozens of Ukrainian feminists on Monday staged an unusual protest against the country's all-male cabinet, pretending to urinate to show the government had turned into nothing more than a men's room.

The members of the Femen group - known for its brazen feminist stunts - squirted bottles of water and yellow liquid from their groins outside the government headquarters as a bemused line of police looked on.

"To urinate standing is not a privilege," said a banner held by one of the estimated 30 protesters. The police did not prevent the protest but also did not allow the women any further towards the government.

The police, wrapped up against the winter cold, tried to repress their smiles as the scantily clad women squirted the liquid all over the pavement.

The demonstrators were protesting after a cabinet reshuffle last week again left the government of Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and President Viktor Yanukovych without a single female cabinet minister.

"We think that the prime minister has mixed the cabinet of ministers up with a male lavatory and thus has forbidden entry to members of the 'weaker' sex," Femen said in a statement.

The lack of women in the cabinet is a contrast to the previous government that was ousted earlier this year and was led by charismatic former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Naked man just photographing 'ghosts'

(AGENCY)

A man caught naked in a south Mississippi, US church cemetery says he was trying to take photographs of spirits.

Robert Hurst told The Picayune Item newspaper that he shed his clothes because he believes skin is the best canvas to show spirits' orbs of energy.

The 47-year-old said he only intended to remove his shirt, but he took off all his clothes - a move he now calls "stupid."

Authorities had set up a motion-activated camera to try to catch vandals. Shane Tucker, the chief deputy in Pearl River County, said Mr Hurst was not accused of vandalism, but the camera caught an unexpected image of Mr Hurst naked.

Hurst faces a misdemeanour charge of indecent exposure. He posted US $500 bond after turning himself in Friday.

Wham win most annoying Xmas song award

(AGENCY)

British pop group Wham!'s 1984 hit single "Last Christmas" was voted most annoying Christmas song in a poll in Bulgaria, beating Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas," organisers said Monday.

A total of 28,110 Bulgarians said the Wham! hit was the song they least wanted to hear this year in the ballot on the campaign's website www.nohohoho.org.
"Every song gets disgusting when you hear it for the 172,395th time," one voter, Bambi, commented.

"I think these songs are the reason for Christmas depressions and suicides," added another pollster, Yordan Stamenov.

Not everyone agreed.

"This campaign is imbecile. It is these songs that make Christmas," said another pollster, Sasho.

Despite the vote, the two picks were listed by the website www.gigwise.com as the most downloaded Christmas songs this year, judging by figures collected by OVI music store.

Bah humbug: Santas booted out of Tiananmen Square

(AFP)

Dozens of mainly foreign residents of Beijing dressed up as Santa Claus as part of a worldwide weekend costume parade got a lump of coal in their Christmas stockings - ejection from Tiananmen Square.

The group was taking part in Saturday's SantaCon - a worldwide event that sees people don Santa's familiar red suit and white-brimmed hat and make merry in cities around the world including the Chinese capital, two revellers said.

About four hours into the day-long event, which in Beijing takes the form of a pub crawl, dozens of revellers entered Tiananmen Square -- the scene of mass pro-democracy protests in 1989 that ended in a bloody army crackdown.

As they gathered for a photo, police intervened, the participants said.

"You are causing a social disturbance - leave the square now," one partygoer, who asked not to be identified, quoted a police officer as saying to the group.

"If you want to visit Tiananmen, come in the appropriate way."

Another participant told AFP: "Everyone just dispersed really quickly in an effort not to get into trouble. The cops did follow us out, but the party moved on and there were no problems."

The Global Times quoted one drunken Santa as saying: "China stole my Christmas," but the first participant interviewed by AFP said he thought the incident had given the event some bite.

"I think people sort of liked getting kicked out of Tiananmen Square. I think it added a bit of edginess to what otherwise would just have been a pub crawl," he said, adding there had been no problems in the past two years.

Baby killer caught in web of lies

(AP)

In the end, the jury just couldn't believe Keli Lane.

In the 14 years since her newborn daughter Tegan "disappeared", the former water polo star lied to everyone, reported The Australian.

She lied to lovers, friends and family to cover up the birth. Later, once the existence of the child was discovered, she lied to authorities and police to throw them off the scent, according to the media report.

In court, her lawyers asked the jury to believe that the child, not heard of since September 1996, was alive and well looked-after by a former lover, who despite years of publicity never came forward.

After a 17-week trial and five days of deliberation, the jurors returned a majority verdict of guilty, rejecting Lane's version of events and finding that she had murdered the newborn girl and disposed of her soon after the then 21-year-old left Auburn Hospital in Sydney's west.
