Did Nasa find a rat on Mars?

Published

Nasa’s Mars Curiosity rover has captured a dusty orange rodent among other stones and dust, according to a blogger.

Curiosity captured an image of a Martian landscape. The agency describes the site as “this patch of windblown sand and dust downhill from a cluster of dark rocks.” It's known as the Rocknest site.

But according to UFO Sightings Daily, a closer look reveals a rat among the rocks.

In an update to the original story, the author shared several emails from readers who describe the rat on Mars as a NASA experiment to determine the chance of survival on the planet’s surface, reports ibtimes.com

Netizens also vouch that it is a space rat!

"This animal was not the first to be discovered in NASA photos,” the UFO Sightings Daily author went on, but is in a long line of strange creatures," says a report on Yahoo.com.

Another query doing the rounds is if Nasa is placing animals from tiny cryogenic chambers inside the rover onto the surface of Mars to conduct tests?

However, Nasa was  quick to hose down such claims, but welcomed the interest in the Mars Rover images.

"A fundamental question for this mission is whether Mars could have supported a habitable environment," added Michael Meyer, lead scientist for Nasa's Mars Exploration Programme. "From what we know now, the answer is yes."
