Egyptian wife kills ‘mean’ husband while asleep

An Egyptian woman waited for her husband to go to bed, got a kitchen knife and stabbed him just three months after their marriage. She then phoned a taxi and rushed him to hospital but he died on the way.

Newspapers in the Arab country said the woman told police she decided to get rid of her husband because he was mean and had not allowed her to visit her family.

The woman handed herself to the police in Cairo and told them she took her wounded husband to hospital because she wanted to save him but that it was too late.

Newspapers did not identify the couple but quoted the woman as telling police that she had gone mad because her husband had refused to spend any money on her during their marriage.

Don’t drink and drive…it's just not worth it: A mom's appeal

A Welsh woman who lost her young son in a road crash involving a drunk driver appealed for motorists not to drink and drive, saying having a drink is not worth it.

“Drink driving ruins people’s lives…it is total devastation for our family who now have been given a life sentence of living without our son, brother and grandson,” said Donne Lea, whose son Kieran was killed in a recent road accident in North Wales after colliding with a car driven by another man who was drunk.

“It’s all been taken away by somebody who had the selfish attitude of thinking ‘ I’m going to have that extra drink’…… for those who continue to drink and drive, I would beg them not to do it…it’s just not worth it.”

Rhyl, Prestatyn and Abergele Journal did not specify Kieran’s age but carried a picture of the victim showing he was below 20 years.

The paper said Kieran’s family would mark its first Christmas without him by joining a police anti-drink driving campaign to be launched during the festivities.

It said the other driver involved in the accident was sentenced to five years and four months in prison and was banned from driving for three years.

Citing police data, the paper said that during the 2012 Christmas campaign, more than 500 drivers in Wales were caught over the drink drive limit after 35,000 breath tests.
