A teenager who was all set to fly to Spain to celebrate her 18th birthday with her friends had a bad start to her holiday.

According to a report in AsiaOne, the law student was dressed for a sunny vacation in her shorts and top. Checking in at Manchester Airport, she was asked by airport staff to change into decent clothes.

She claims that the airlines supervisor asked her to take off her high-cut shorts in front of other passengers before checking in.

She told the Mail Online, "I felt distraught - it was very embarrassing. I did not feel my outfit was inappropriate..."

The teenager was upset that she was not allowed to go to the toilet to change. She was quoted as saying that she had to search through her luggage and find a long kaftan, which she wrapped over to get out of the shorts and wear a long cotton one.

However, a the airlines spokesman denied she was told she could not go to the toilet to change, and added that the teenager was "politely asked to change to comply with the airline's dress policy."
