John Lennon's drawings and manuscripts from his two acclaimed books are going on the auction block.

The items are being offered Wednesday by Sotheby's, which says it's the largest private collection of Lennon's work to come to the market.

They are being sold by British publisher Tom Maschler. He worked with Lennon on "In His Own Write" and "A Spaniard in the Works." Lennon wrote the books and created the drawings for them in the 1960s.

Among the items in the auction is a manuscript from 1965. "The Singularge Experience of Miss Anne Duffield" has a pre-auction estimate of between $50,000 and $70,000.

Lennon was fatally shot in 1980.
