A local man was arrested for stealing a sandwich from Subway Restaurant.
When police arrived, they found the front door shattered, footprints on the counter and an empty meat container.
Andrew David Rose, 27, was picked up by Austin police two blocks away with a bag containing deli-cut ham and triangle-shaped cheese. The suspect initially told police he picked up the bag of sandwich fixings after two hooded men dropped it on the sidewalk.
Police said Rose admitted to burglarizing the restaurant to feed himself and his girlfriend.
Rose is currently in the Travis County Jail in lieu of a $6,000 bond. He is charged with burglary of a building, a felony offense that carries a penalty of two years in state jail.
Subway management estimated the damage to the store door at approximately $500.
