Man chooses birds over wife

A Saudi court decided to split a local couple at the wife’s request after she accused her husband of showing more interest in birds than in her.

The wife had filed for a divorce at a court in the eastern province of Qateef nearly a year ago but dropped the case after the husband promised to abandon breeding birds and look after his home.

The woman had told court that her husband left her on the wedding eve to sleep with his birds, according to Alyoum newspaper.

“The wife abandoned the idea of a divorce after her husband promised to stop breeding pigeons and other birds,” the paper said, quoting judge Sheikh Mohammed al Jirani from the Endowments Department in Qateef.

“But he later broke his promise and returned to breeding birds…all our efforts to persuade the wife to drop the divorce idea again have failed….she has been granted a divorce and the man returned to his birds….he appears to have a strong love for birds as he has more than 400 of them.”
