Police near Pittsburgh say a man pretended to be a county police officer when he demanded free food from a McDonald's that offers the perk to real on-duty officers.

Fifty-five-year-old Charles Lester Jones, of Carnegie, told WPXI-TV that's he's a private security officer and does wear a badge - but denies pretending to be an Allegheny County officer or demanding food at the Scott Township restaurant.

But township police Sgt. Jeff Skees says Jones wanted restaurant employees "to believe he was a police officer and on duty so that he could get free food. Kind of ridiculous."

Jones confronted outside his home Tuesday asked a reporter, "Do I look like I can't afford to buy my own hamburger?"

The Associated Press could not immediately locate a phone number for Jones.
