Man gets two years, to be lashed for slapping mom

A Saudi court made a local man pay a heavy price by sentencing him to two years in prison and ordering him lashed 400 times on charges of slapping his old mother.

The 61-year-old mother from the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah had reported her son, 23, to the police after he slapped her in the face and threatened her with a knife to force her to give him money to buy cigarettes, Almadina newspaper reported.

During interrogation, the son first denied the charges but later confessed to attacking his mother after police found that he already had been jailed on drug charges.

“The judge decided on tough punishment of the son for such a serious crime by sentencing him to two years in jail and ordering him lashed 400 times…the judge also decided to send the son to a medical centre for drug addiction treatment,” it said.
