Passenger spits on flight attendant

A female passenger on an Air New Zealand flight to Shanghai was held by police after she allegedly scratched and spat on members of the cabin crew because she was not served her choice of meal.

Police boarded Flight NZ289 from Auckland to Shanghai to remove the woman after it landed at Pudong International Airport on last Thursday morning. reports stuff.nz.co.

Air New Zealand could not provide further details as the matter was now with police.

The police met the plane upon arrival and the person tried to hide as they boarded the plane.

Another passenger said that the airline did a good job in dealing with the situation.

TVNZ reporter Katie Bradford said in a Twitter post that the woman "nearly caused a riot when they didn't have the meal she wanted".

She posted on Twitter, "Police boarded my flight in Shanghai because a woman nearly caused a riot when they didn't have the meal she wanted. Definition of Hangry."
