A 36-year-old Filipina who was declared dead just before delivery at a Kuwaiti hospital suddenly returned to life after a Cesarean operation that was performed without anesthesia and doctors described the case as a “scientific miracle.”
The woman who was in labour was rushed to Farawaniya hospital in Kuwait City on Friday but doctors later declared her clinically dead because of high blood pressure.
Doctors then decided to perform an urgent Cesarean operation to save the infant and it took them nearly five minutes to deliver the woman without giving her any anesthesia on the grounds she was considered dead.
“Her heart stopped and she no longer breathed…after saving the infant, doctors decided to do one final attempt to resuscitate her and it worked…she suddenly started to breath and her heart began to beat again….it was a scientific miracle,” said Dr Hamoud Al Zubi, the hospital director.
Newspapers quoted gynecologist Dr Mohammed Hassan, who performed the operation, as saying the baby boy was born in a good condition and weighed 3.1 kg at birth, adding that the mother is in a stable condition and would remain in hospital.
“We made a final attempt to save her life after the delivery…it was a big surprise for all of us when her heart started to beat again….she just returned to life,” he said.
