School cancels sports day after rabbit invasion

A school has been forced to cancel its sports day after rabbits began to invade the space.

Headteacher Craig Watson has decided to seal off the grass his pupils aged between nine and 13 play on during recreation, lessons and after school after a group of bunnies began digging holes all over place - meaning kids were falling over.

Writing in a letter to parents, Mr Watson said: "You may be aware of the ongoing timeshare arrangement we have with rabbits and our school field.

"We have always shared the field with our furry friends but this year, there are significantly more than ever before and they are digging countless holes. As fast as we fill the holes, more are dug. Despite successfully culling a large number, there remains a significant number which are still causing ongoing damage.

"There have been a few instances of children stumbling into a rabbit hole and hurting themselves and obviously, we cannot risk further, more serious injury to children or visitors to school. This decision has not been taken lightly. We know how much children enjoy using the field for lessons, clubs and socially. However, their health and safety is of paramount importance."

This isn't the first time the bunnies have invaded Cranborne Middle School in Dorset as the furry creatures started to invade several years ago.

Their new home wasn't a problem at first but they've been multiplying more and more and now there's too many holes to keep the field open safely.

Mr Watson hopes to have the field back in action in time for September.
