Imagine you are about to get married and travelled to Dubai, where your made a big chocolate order for your wedding before discovering there is no direct flight to your home country. In this scorching summer heat, it is normal to cancel the deal but you do not realize that the company had already started working on it.

That was what happened to a woman from a North African Arab country.

After arriving in Dubai, the region’s business hub, she made an order worth nearly Dh110,000 to supply chocolate to her wedding in her home country.

A few days later, she discovered that there is no direct flight to her country and that the aircraft has to make a stopover in Egypt.

“She realized that in such hot conditions, the chocolate will melt and will be damaged before arrival in her home country…so she went to the company and requested cancellation of the deal,” Emirat Alyoum daily said, quoting Hashim Al Nuaimi, consumer protection director at the Ministry of Economy.

“It was one of the funniest cases facing my office….the company refused to refund the woman on the grounds that it has already started working on her order…we intervened at her request and in the end we reached a settlement stipulating that the company is paid Dh15,000 damages.”

The paper did not make clear whether the aborted chocolate deal has spoiled the woman’s wedding plans.
