Indian parents try to bury their infant girl alive

Just about 100kms from the Indian capital of New Delhi, a young couple tried to get rid of their one and a half month old girl child in a brutal way.

The couple and the child's uncle were caught red-handed when an old gentleman heard a baby crying and went to investigate the matter. He was horrified to see the couple trying to bury the child in the burial ground while she was very much alive and kicking, reports Indian television channel NDTV.

The woman told the burial ground trustee that a godman had asked them to bury their daughter so that the couple's other children could live. They had lost another child to some incurable disease last year, the channel reported.

The elderly man reported the trio to police authorities.The godman has not been traced so far.

The incident comes just days after Bollywood actor went on-air on different television networks highlighting the sad plight of girl child in India.

The television programme is said to have taken the country by storm and the issue of female foeticide and girl child has been trending on social networking sites.

However, these incidents work as a reality check and prove that a lot needs to be done in the country to change the perception at the grassroot level.
