Large whale found dead on Saudi beach

A 12-metre whale which travelled all the way from the Indian Ocean to Saudi Arabia in search for food was found dead on a breach in the Gulf Kingdom, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Coast guard patrols found the dead whale washed ashore on Madaya beach in the southern province of Jazan on Saturday, Okaz said.

It quoted an expert at the animal wealth research centre in Jazan as saying the whale had apparently come from the Indian Ocean as this species does not exist in the Red Sea opposite the Saudi coast.

“The whale died after it swam into shallow waters and was apparently unable to leave, which caused exhaustion and oxygen shortage in its blood.”
