At least not according to shark experts who have examined the preserved creature.

The foetus, according to ‘The West Australian’ newspaper had been cut from its pregnant bull shark mother, which had been caught by a commercial fisherman in the Gulf of California.

Photos of the dead small shark with one eye in the centre of its face became an instant internet hit.

Shark experts said it was unlikely the foetus would have survived after its natural birth.
