Woman's shuttle launch photos from plane window
Stefanie Gordon snapped the space shuttle Endeavour rocketing through the skies from the window of an airplane.
Spectators on the ground got a stunted view of Endeavour's final launch on May 16 when it vanished into a ceiling of clouds shortly after liftoff, reports Space.com.
However, some lucky passengers who happened to be in the air at the time saw the fantastic sight of the shuttle streaking its way to orbit.
Gordon was sleeping on the flight but woke up in time for Endeavour's liftoff when the pilot of her Delta airlines plane made an announcement that the spectacle would be visible.
She described the experience as "amazing", reports news website news.com.au. "The captain made an announcement that we would probably see it," Gordon told CBS News. "I really couldn't hear what he was saying, and then all of a sudden people started getting up and going over to the windows."
The pictures have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times on social networking sites.
Through the plane's window, Gordon managed to capture pictures on her iPhone of the amazing sight of shuttle Endeavour climbing high into the clear sky above a low shelf of clouds, said Space.com.
