Standoff ends as cop finds weapon is phone[y]

A Roseburg, Ore., police officer was engaged in a brief standoff with a man who pointed an object at him and threatened to shoot.

The object in question turned out to be a cell phone.

The Roseburg News-Review reports Roseburg officer Anthony Powers confronted 47-year-old David Schattenkerk in a park Tuesday night after three women told police Schattenkerk was harassing them.

When Powers arrived, Schattenkerk hid behind a tree and threatened to shoot. He then threw the cell phone at the officer, police said, and yelled obscenities.

Schattenkerk was arrested and charged with menacing and disorderly conduct.
