Man to have second surgery on his 90-kilo tumour

A man from Vietnam who has a 90kg tumour on his leg will today undergo surgery on the massive growth. The surgery has a 50 per cent success rate.

A doctor who has successfully treated similar cases, Dr McKay McKinnon, will operate on the tumour.

Nguyen Duy Hai's underwent amputation at the knee almost 14 years ago, however, the tumour kept growing unabated. The tumour is one metre wide now.

Hai comes from a poor family and they appealed for help last year as they could not afford the massive medical bills.
 
"It’s common for people to fear death, and I’m no exception. But when I heard that Dr McKinnon had decided to come back to Vietnam one more time to give me a new life, I became more hopeful," Hai told Vietnamese news site Tuoitre News.

A mother and her partner were charged with child abuse for forcing her 10-year-old son to live in a filthy coal shed for a year.

All that the coverted outhouse contained were a soiled mattress, a potty and dirty clothes, reports The Sun.

Police officials told the court that the door to the shed was locked from outside.

The couple's abusive tendencies came to light when an incident occurred in school and the officers and social service officers went to the boy's home.

The case has been moved from magistrate's court to Crown court and the couple have been barred from having any contact with any children below 18 years.

The boy, who is now believed to be 12 years old, is in the care of social services.
