Weather delays new edge-of-space jump bid

An Austrian daredevil's attempt to jump from the edge of space will not be made on Thursday as planned, due to worsening weather forecasts, a spokeswoman said.

The Red Bull Stratos mission organisers had said Thursday could be okay for a new bid, following a last minute decision Tuesday to abort the launch because of gusting winds.

"No go for Thursday," spokeswoman Sarah Anderson told AFP, adding that further details about other possible launch options were still being considered.

The 43-year-old Austrian plans to jump from an altitude of 36 km in a pressurized space suit after being taken aloft in a capsule suspended under a giant helium balloon.

He aims to break three records: the highest free fall above Earth; the fastest speed ever achieved by a human; and the first person not in an aircraft to break the sound barrier of around around  1,100 kmh.
