Chelsea may be willing to swap veteran midfielder Frank Lampard in a bid to lure Tottenham star Luka Modric to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are refusing to give up on Modric and will make a renewed bid when the transfer window reopens next month.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp Spurs boss Harry Redknapp would see Lampard as a direct replacement for Modric and that could swing the deal, according to the 'Mirror'.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is under pressure to deliver and could offload his aging stars like Lampard who missed a penalty in their 3-0 win against Newcastle on Saturday.

He also agreed to let go of Nicolas Anelka and Alex who sought transfer requests.

Lampard was substitued after 60 minutes in the Newcastle game.

Chelsea made three bids for the Croatian in the summer — which were rejected by Tottenham — who insisted Modric wasn’t for sale at any price.

Villas-Boas is also prepared to use Didier Drogba and Nicolas as bait.

Although Modric stopped short of handing a transfer request in during the summer, he pleaded with Tottenham to allow him to move across London.

There has been reports that Modric would be offered a new deal at Tottenham but he is unlikely to sign anything as Chelsea renew their interest.
