Man Utd's January transfer horror: Van Persie, Kagawa out?

Last season it was all about the service.

Robin Van Persie got plenty, thanks in no small part to the presence of Paul Scholes.

In return, the lethal striker handed Manchester United another Premier League title.

This season there is no Scholes. And there is no Sir Alex Ferguson. And there is a distinct lack of service to Van Persie.

Over the first three games of the season, especially during the draw with Chelsea and loss to Liverpool, the United engine room have struggled to make sure enough torque was being delivered up front.

New manager David Moyes was left fuming. For the most part, Danny Welbeck seemed to get in the way of the midfield finding Van Persie much quicker.

United’s wingers – Evra, Jones, Valencia, Nani – all have to still come to terms with the kind of crosses they once delivered with the precision of a heat-seeking missiles.

Yesterday, on the international stage, Van Persie reminded United of the benefits of simply getting the ball to him – early and quick – in good positions. And maybe in any position.

The Dutch sealed their place for next year’s World Cup in Brazil thanks to a Van Persie double.

The first was a classic Persie strike from outside the penalty area in the 49th minute, followed four minutes later by a tap-in.

Van Persie is now just two goals short of country's all-time scoring record.

The fear among the Old Trafford faithful is that the fact Van Persie left Arsenal was to win trophies.

And now, a trophy drought might ensue at United till Moyes finds his feet.

Will Van Persie wait?

Come January, the Dutch hitman might well consider his future, after all, one Premier League title is not going to be enough for a striker of his class.

Could a return to Arsenal beckon?

Shinji Kagawa, another United player to shine internationally this week, might provide the answer to serving Van Persie.

That is if, Moyes chooses to play him.

Or come January, it might be Shinji freed (Dortmund is waiting) and Van Persie gone.
