All talk is about Barcelona’s La Maisa academy and the similar new plans in the Blue half of Manchester.

The fact is, the Manchester United youth works is templating them just fine, and in time too.

With Nemanja Vidic struggling with injury and Rio Ferdinand ageing, a clutch of new centrebacks seem the order for the day for Sir Alex Ferguson.

The young new talent on the back four being hailed as the next Ferdinand is Tyler Blackett.

Speaking to MUTV, Blackett says he signed for United when he was seven or eight, after playing for Fletcher Moss.

And though it is Ronaldinho that he idolizes, the players he looks up to at United are Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand.
“Evra for his attacking sense and Rio for his calmness and coolness on the ball,” says Blackett.

That is no surprise as his height and physique mean he is naturally suited to playing at centre-back, but is arguably best playing at left-back.

Blackett in the interview rates his power and speed as his key factors and Jesse Lingard and Larnell Cole as his best mates at the club

What Blackett has added to his repertoire, according to the club’s website is a booming free-kick, collecting a couple of goals from set-pieces - including a rocket at Swansea City in the FA Youth Cup.
That is something even Ferdinand does not have.
