As the smoke lifts on Manchester United’s scrappy 4-3 win over Reading on Saturday, one question being asked is has Anders Lindegaard made the goalkeeping slot his own.

With two goals from corners, the answer is unlikely.

This means it is back to the David De Gea project for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Hope that De Gea might still be the one comes from United’s own legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

The great Dane was quoted by the United website as tellingPA Sport and the Manchester Evening News:

"I admire the fella.

"I cannot remember anyone coming into Manchester United and being criticised the way he was criticised. He was ridiculed every day. He was the subject of every debate in the media.

“Every programme possible was talking about him and debating the situation. Yet he still went out there with a smile on his face."

Answering fan questions from around the world for United’s official newsletter Red View, De Gea does not seem too worried about his United future.

When asked who has the hardest shot in training, he replied, “Paul Scholes has a fierce shot. Nani can also hit the ball well and Nick Powell has stung my hands a few times. To be honest, everybody strikes the ball well. There aren't many easy shots.”

Speaking about his old club Atletico Madrid, De Gea says, “There's no reason they can't battle it out with Real Madrid and Barcelona for the championship. The Atletico fans are superb - the support they give the players is amazing. Like United, it's a special place to play.”

Interestingly, though Shinji Kagawa does not speak Spanish and De Gea no Japanese, they still communicate well.

“He's a really nice guy and, like me, he's having classes and learning English. So we can communicate a little bit. Of course, it's no secret what a good player he is on the pitch. It's a shame he's been out injured recently because he was a very important member of the team at the beginning of the season. Hopefully he'll be back soon.”
