Rodgers only Liverpool hope? Bring Carroll back
Given that Brendan Rodgers seems to have a really long rope at Liverpool, it might make sense not to spend more money in the January transfer window.
Rodgers needs to seal the deal shut for January – no more strikers.
Instead, focusing on getting the tiki-taka DNA deep in to the new Liverpool genes and ensuring that the Reds at least finish mid-table.
That will leave Rodgers to correct the one mistake that landed Liverpool in this mess in the first place – Andy Carroll.
Stubborn as Rodgers has proved to be - “one win in seven, but defend with the ball at your feet” – letting Carroll go was the single biggest mistake he made.
Bringing Carroll back could be a show of Rodgers willingness to put the club before his revolution.
West Ham are hoping to make Carroll a permanent deal at Upton Park.
At the time of the transfer Rodgers has suggested record signing Carroll could still have a future at Anfield despite leaving on loan.
Rodgers said at the time: “I believe it has been difficult for him in his period here. He hasn't played anywhere near as regularly as he wanted to and he wanted this to be a season where he was going to be playing regularly.”
Carroll has endured a torrid time at Anfield since arriving from Newcastle.
The Liverpool boss missed out on Clint Dempsey but now, Carroll could be the one to make it happen for Liverpool.
