Abu Dhabi links parking with 'Tawtheeq'

Residents in Abu Dhabi will soon have to present ‘Tawtheeq’ registered tenancy contracts to apply for a parking spot near their residences, according to a report in Gulf News.

Customers will now have to bring in a tenancy contract duly registered as per the municipality-approved form in order to complete any of their transactions relating to their properties registered in Tawtheeq e-system.

In a move to extend the ‘Tawtheeq system’, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has started coordinating with the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Transport.

This will stipulate the registration of leasable property details and tenancy contracts under the Tawtheeq system.

"The partnership agreements with the three departments are part of the municipality's efforts to make Tawtheeq-registered contracts an essential component of real estate industry transactions and services in the capital," said Ali Al Hashemi, manager of Tawtheeq at the municipality.

"After registered tenancy contracts have become the norm for all services at the ADDC, the DED and the DOT, the municipality will also form partnerships with 12 other government departments which currently require tenancy contracts as part of their transactions," he said.

Launched in March, the Tawtheeq project aims to register all leasable properties and lease contracts in the capital in a bid to streamline Abu Dhabi's real estate industry. The deadline for all property management companies and landlords to sign up to the system is set for September 30, as announced by the municipality when the system was launched.

Currently, more than 45,000 units in the capital, including 22,500 units owned by the Abu Dhabi Commercial Properties, have been registered on the Tawtheeq system.

"We believe there are about 300,000 leasable units in Abu Dhabi city, of which half are owned by property management firms and half by individual owners and landlords, but these statistics can only be verified once the Tawtheeq system is in place," Al Hashimi said.
