Revealed: Top real estate buyers in Dubai

Americans and Russians were among the top buyers of land and apartments in the first six months of 2011, Emirates 24/7 can reveal.

Dubai Land Department data shared exclusively with this website reveals that Americans purchased 66 land plots for Dh335 million and 456 apartments for Dh615 million. Russians spent Dh279 million to buy 41 plots and Dh1.291 billion for purchasing 791 apartments.

UAE nationals topped the list of land buyers spending almost Dh5.599 billion, while Indians were top apartment buyers, having spent Dh3.280 billion.

Indians followed UAE Nationals by buying 381 land plots worth Dh1.666 billion, followed by Britons who bought 239 plots for Dh1.090 billion. Pakistani nationals purchased 132 plots for Dh440 million while Iranians came in fifth by purchasing 107 plots for Dh521 million.

Britons were second top buyers of apartments, having purchased 1,818 units for Dh2.396 billion. Pakistanis followed in by buying 1,602 apartments for Dh1.261 billion, while Iranians bought 1,517 apartments for Dh2.252 billion.

Indians bought 203 villas and buildings for Dh338 million, followed by Britons who purchased 139 villas and buildings for Dh241 million. Pakistanis, Iranians and UAE nationals were next on the list, having spent Dh161 million, Dh78 million and Dh49 million, respectively, to buy villas and apartments.

Total land and apartment purchases during the first six months amounted to Dh14.619 billion and Dh21.057 billion, respectively, or a total of Dh35.68b ($9.71b).
