No trucks in city during rush hour for Ramadan

Trucks carrying loads of two and half tonnes or above will not be allowed to enter Abu Dhabi city during rush hour in Ramadan, the Traffic and Patrols Department of Abu Dhabi Police has announced.

Trucks will be prevented from entering the city between 7.30am and 9.30am and 1pm to 3pm to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The department has set Ramadan working hours from 8am to 6pm at the service centres in Abu Dhabi, the Western Region and Al Ain.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has also amended the hours trucks can travel on the roads in Ramadan.

They are prohibited from using Shaikh Zayed Road (from Jebel Ali Port to Zabeel Tunnel), Al Ittihad Road (from Al Garhoud Tunnel to the outskirts of Sharjah), part of Shaikh Rashid Road (from Zabeel Tunnel to Al Garhoud Tunnel) and the Central Business District area, marked in purple, from 7am to 11pm.

Meanwhile, working hours at the Residency and Foreigners' Affairs Department during Ramadan are set from 9am to 6pm at the various sections dealing with the public.

Visiting hours at Dubai's Punitive and Reformative Establishments during Ramadan have been set. For men, visiting times for Emirati and Arab prisoners are on Friday between 10am and 11.30am, while for other nationalities they are on Saturday between 10am and 11.30am.

Visiting hours for Emirati and Arab women are between 9.30am and 10.30am on Friday, and for other nationalities they are between 9.30am and 10.30am on Saturday.

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City also announced it will have extended working hours at its headquarters so that 488 villas can be handed over to Emiratis before Ramadan, a statement sent by the municipality announced yesterday. The extended hours started yesterday, and are from 7am to 8pm.
