RTA launches semi-trailers licensing service for individuals, public entities

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the service of numbering and licensing semi-trailers for community members and government entities after a period where the service was offered exclusively to businesses concerned with the transportation of commodities, luggage, and motor bikes among others.

The step complements RTA’s plan aimed at broadening the scope of the service to cover all community segments and organizations in a bid to protect road users from the potential accidents that might be triggered by these trailers.

Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA Licensing Agency, said: “The RTA is constantly pursuing the realization of its vision (safe and smooth transport for all) through the rolling out a number of initiatives and services in line with our set plans. These include complementing the registration and licensing of trailers and semi-trailers in order to ensure their safe movement on roads, and ensuring that they measure up to the traffic safety stipulations, over and above the fact that registration involves the verification of the ownership and identity of these equipment by the concerned body.

“One of the encouraging techniques adopted during this campaign is offering individuals the benefit of licensing and registering semi-trailers once every three years, whereas in companies they are subjected to annual inspection in order to ensure their road worthiness as they differ in size and nature of use almost (almost on daily basis) when compared to the individual use. The testing covers the contents and structure of the trailer and semi-trailer, and whether they conform to the mandatory technical stipulations (lights, reflective lights, tyres, towing method, dimensions, lifting poles) and other systems.

“The Licensing Agency distributed brochures at customers’ service centers in Dubai about mini trailers and the safe towing means, and containing various information, precautions and alerts to be adhered to during the towing of the semi-trailer. These cover proper cargo weight, and the provision of basic requirements such as rear lights, parking lights, signals and metal plate lights; which will add to the road safety & security,” added Bahrozyan.

The CEO of RTA Licensing Agency further indicated that the licensing of semi-trailers would assist in raising the traffic awareness of individuals and community members as a whole; which would push the concerted efforts towards realizing RTA vision of Safe and Smooth Transport for All. “Concerned parties can report to service providers in Dubai to finalize the testing, registration and numbering of semi-trailers, namely Tamam Al Ghandi, Tasjeel Jebel Ali, Tasjeel Warsan, and Al Shirawi.

It is note-worthy that the Licensing Agency has a plan extending up to the end of this year covering the licensing of various types of semi-trailers. Last August the RTA started the licensing of box/luggage trailers and equipment/plant trailers, and next October it will start the licensing of semi-trailers relating to a single light vehicle and caravan coaches.

In November it will attend to the licensing of animal/horse transportation carriages, and in December it will cater to the licensing of multi-purpose carriages.
