Sarabjit Singh critical after attack in Pak jail

Indian national Sarabjit Singh, who has been jailed in Pakistan for spying, was attacked in Pakistani jail by inmates on Friday evening.

Sarabjit Singh was shifted to Jinnah Hospital in Lahore. Hospital sources said Singh was in critical condition due to serious head injuries and bleeding.

Singh has been on death row for bomb blasts in Pakistan which killed 14 people in Lahore and Faisalabad.

Jailed since 1990 in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, Singh has admitted his involvement in bomb blasts, Pakistani media report said.

Sarabjeet Singh family has appealed for mercy and visited Pakistan numerous times over the last decade to meet him in the prison.

Pakistan Foreign Office said Kot Lakhpat Jail Inspector General has dismissed personnel at the duty for negligence. Singh will also be provided counselor services, Foreign Office said.
