This evening the competition will heat up in the biggest drama and dance-off between Dubai's schools, as the Junior Rock Challenge comes into play at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre (Ductac).

This performance arts extravaganza will bring together students, parents and the community to support and encourage children to lead a healthier, positive lifestyle.

Organised by The Rock Challenge, an international non-profit organisation that strives to encourage children to get creative, the show also aims to highlight important social messages to young children, such as education, road safety and leading a smoke-free life.

Producer Aysel Dunman, says: "We are excited for the Junior Rock Challenge and it's fantastic to see so many students, teachers and parents putting in so much effort and hard work to produce these amazing shows."

Eight schools are participating in the event. Children who did not make it to the spotlight have lent their expertise elsewhere. Their duties included lighting, designing and building sets, make-up, fundraising and costume designing, says Dunman.

Junior Rock Challenge. On friday at Ductac from 7pm. Tickets cost Dh80. Call 050 873 3900
