The US lawmaker shot in the head in an Arizona shooting rampage was moved to a rehabilitation hospital on Wednesday, doctors said, continuing her stunning recovery from the horrifying attack.

Gabrielle Giffords’ condition was upgraded from “serious” to “good” before her transfer from Houston’s Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where she had been in intensive care, to the TIRR Memorial Hermann rehab hospital in Los Angeles.
The Democratic congresswoman, shot at point-blank range in the deadly attack less than three weeks ago, “has done very well in her therapy sessions in the ICU,” said Gerard Francisco of the Texas rehabilitation facility.
“It will be good to have her at TIRR Memorial Hermann where we can devote more time to her rehabilitation and recovery,” added the doctor, one of America’s top physicians in the field of brain injury and rehabilitation.
Giffords, 40, was transferred to Houston on January 21 after being treated at a hospital in Tucson, Arizona in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, which killed six people.
On January 8, an apparently deranged lone gunman went on a rampage during an outdoor public meeting that Giffords was holding with constituents. Those killed included a federal judge and a nine-year-old girl.
Neurosurgeon Dong Kim, who had been helping to treat her in Houston, was upbeat about her continued recovery.
“The drain that had been placed in Tucson was removed and her condition continued to improve, clearing the way for her move to TIRR Memorial Hermann,” he said.
“I will continue to follow her during rehabilitation and anticipate she’ll do very well.”
