It was Arsenal’s turn to have a go.

After Robin van Persie fired the Gunners back into within striking distance of the top four with a win over Stoke, Manchester United were destroyed by Manchester City.

Arsenal fans, who had to swallow their pride and a lot else after being humbled by an 8-2 scoreline by United (sparking the 'I 8-2 be a Gunner' jokes) earlier this season had their chance to hit back.

The social networks were abuzz with the United taunts.

“Crisis line for United supporters,” one gag went. “Dial 0161 61 61 61.”

“Thousands queuing to view the body of Jonny Evans at the Stretford branch of Iceland,” another wrote.

The most audacious (and least funny) came from diehard Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, media personality and chat show host in the US.

“I think Sir Alex Ferguson should resign. Only decent course of action,” went one of Morgan’s tweets and another said, “I feel like watching a romcom to recover from all the excitement this morning. Maybe Six and the City?”
