2nd T20: England win by 27 runs to share spoils

England opener Alex Hales belted a blistering 94 in 61 deliveries to set up a 27-run victory over Australia in County Durham on Saturday and a 1-1 draw in the two-match series of Twenty20 internationals.

Hales and Michael Lumb (43) put on 111 for the first wicket as England piled up 195 for five at Chester-le-Street.

Opener David Warner hit a quickfire 53 off 42 balls to raise Australian hopes of a second successive victory but paceman Jade Dernbach grabbed three wickets as they collapsed from 111 for three to finish on 168 for nine.

On Thursday, Aaron Finch smashed a record 156, the highest score in a Twenty20 international, to lead Australia to a 39-run win in the opening encounter at Southampton.

ENGLAND INNINGS

England restricted Australia to 168-9 and win the second T20 international by 27 runs to level the series at Durham Country Cricket Ground in Chester-le-Street on Saturday.

Coulter-Nile is dismissed after hitting consecutive sixes off Finn. Aus 162-9.

Marsh gets into the act sweeping Root for a six over midwicket.

Warner gets another boundary off Root with a lovely late cut to point. Aus 66-2 in 8 overs.

Warner is looking dangerous cracking a couple of boundaries off Briggs and clearing the long on fielder for his third six. Aus 57-2 in 7 overs.

Warner whacks Dernbach for a six over long on. Aus 42-2 in 6 overs.

Warner clobbers Finn over long-off for a six.  Aus 34-2 in 5 overs.

Warner cracks a couple of boundaries off Broad through mid on and square leg. Aus 24-2 in 4 overs.

Watson is run out by a direct hit from Morgan. Aus 15-2.

Alex Hales stroked a superb 94 off 61 balls with 11 fours and two sixes.

Wright clobbers three consecutive boundaries off Maxwell beginning with a six into the sight screen. Eng 155-1 in 16 overs.

Wright gets his first boundary off a thick inside edge which flew over the keeper off Johnson. Eng 137-1 in 15 overs.

Hales steers an attempted yorker from Coulter-Nile via an inside edge to the fine leg fence. Eng 124-1 in 13 overs.

Fawad Ahmed gets his first international wicket as Wade pouches a skier from Lumb. Eng 111-1.

Hales continues his onslaught hammering a six and boundary consecutive balls from Johnson with Lumb also nearly hitting a six. Eng 110-0 in 11 overs.

Hales completes his sixth T20 international half century off 34 balls, a knock studded with eight boundaries and a six. Eng 94-0 in 10 overs.

Hales flicks Faulkner to the square leg fence. Eng 88-0 in 9 overs.

Lumb hoists Watson for a towering six over long-on. Eng 74-0 in 7 overs.

Flying start by England opener Lumb and Hales posting 61 without loss in the first six over smashing 12 boundaries.

Coulter-Nile is despatched for three boundaries by Hales and Lumb (twice). Eng 61-0 in 6 overs.

Faulkner goes for 19 in his first over hammering three boundaries and a straight six. Eng 46-0 in 5 overs.

Lumb smashes Coulter-Nile to the midwicket fence. Eng 27-0 in 4 overs.

Hales cracks consecutive boundaries off Johnson. Eng 22-0 in 3 overs.

Lumb jabs Watson to midwicket for another boundary with Warner misfielding. Eng 13-0 in 2 overs.

Australia have won the toss and opted to chase in the second Twenty20 international against England at Chester-le-Street on Saturday.

Australia have made one change with Nathan Coulter-Nile coming in for Josh Hazlewood.

England are unchanged.

Australia are 1-0 in the series after Aaron Finch smashes a record breaking 156 at Rose Bowl on Thursday.
