Michael Clarke got his captaincy off to a terrific start by smashing a century and leading Australia to 270 for seven in the first one-day international against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Saturday.
Clarke made 101 off 111 balls as Australia recovered from 90 for three to post a challenging total after they were sent in to bat by Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan.
Clarke replaced his predecessor Ricky Ponting at the crease and completed his century in the final over with a spectacular six through midwicket off Mashrafee Mortaza.
Mahmudullah took a catch at long on off the next ball to end Clarke's innings that featured six fours and two sixes. He had earlier dropped the new skipper on 84.
Ponting, playing his first game under the new captain, made 34 before he was run out attempting a third run after he had swept left-arm spinner Suhrawadi Shuvo.
Clarke had captained Australia in 24 ODIs previously in Ponting's absence but took over the role full time when Ponting stepped down after their quarter-final exit at the World Cup.
