CLT20 Match 11: Mumbai Indians score easy 7-wicket victory over Highveld Lions

Dwayne Smith hammered an unbeaten half century while Kieron Pollard blasted a quick 32 not out as Mumbai Indians ousted Highveld Lions by seven wickets in a crucial Champions League Twenty20 match in Jaipur.

Chasing 141 to win, Mumbai lost Sachin Tendulkar early and then Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma made small contributions. But all the while Smith kept his cool playing his shots to hit three sixes and four boundaries to score 63 from 47 balls.

He shared an unbeaten half century partnership with Pollard, who hit three sixes and two fours in his knock as Mumbai overhauled the target in 18.3 overs.

Earlier, Lions scored 140 for five in 20 overs.

Skipper Alviro Petersen top scored with an unbeaten 35 and shared an unbroken 59-run partnership with Dwaine Pretorious, who was 31 not out.

For Mumbai, Pragyan Ojha took two wickets.

MUMBAI INDIANS INNINGS

That's it. Mumbai finish it off in style as they secure a seven-wicket victory with nine balls to spare. MI 141-3 in 18.3 overs.

Pollard, Smith are making merry here. Mumbai just need five and it looks to be all over for Lions. MI 136-3 in 18 overs.

Pollard gets aggressive as he hammers a six and a boundary. 16 runs from that over as Mumbai need 20 from 18 balls. MI 121-3 in 17 overs.

Another good over from Pretorius. But Lions' need wicket here. Mumbai need 36 from 24 balls. MI 105-3 in 16 overs.

A fine over from Tanvir. Mumbai need 40 from 30 balls. Not at all difficult with Pollard and Smith still in. Lions looking for wickets. MI 101-3 in 15 overs.

Mumbai need 44 from 36 balls. Looks easy but some quick wickets can change the game. MI 97-3 in 14 overs.

Pollard begins with a boundary. Mumbai need 47 from 42 balls. MI 94-3 in 13 overs.

Hopes for Lions as they pick Sharma. He had timed that shot well only to find a player in the deep. MI 90-3 in 12.4 overs.

Smith hammers Tahir to two successive boundaries on the on side. Mumbai need 54 from 48 balls. It's just getting easier now for Mumbai. MI 87-2 in 12 overs.

Rohit and Smith going strong at the moment. Their partnership is on 25. MI 76-2 in 11 overs.

Runs coming in quite easily for Mumbai. Halfway Mumbai need 76 from 60 balls. MI 65-2 in 10 overs.

Rohit Sharma gets into the act right away. 10 runs including a boundary from Sharma. MI 57-2 in 9 overs.

Karthik opens his account with a six over point. MI 24-1 in 4 overs.

Tanvir does the trick. His slower one completely deceives Tendulkar and is clean bowled. Spectators suddenly go silent in shock. MI 15-1 in 2.5 overs.

A good start for Lions. Tanvir just gives away two runs. MI 2-0 in 1 over.

HIGHVELD LIONS INNINGS

So it's a fine finish for Lions. Petersen and Pretorius ensured Lions had a good total of 140-5 in 20 overs.

The half century partnership between Petersen and Pretorius as Lions look to be setting a good total. Lions 133-5 in 19 overs.

Two bondaries from Petersen takes him to 31. Good over for Lions as Dhawan finishes his spell. Lions 121-5 in 18 overs.

Lions are 110-5 in 17 overs.

That was a good over for Lions. Two lovely sixes that gave 15 runs from the over. Lions 104-5 in 16 overs.

Lions need some big hitting. Mumbai spinners doing a tremendous job to tie down the batsmen. Lions 89-5 in 15 overs.

Wickets tumbling here. Ohja gets his first. Smith hardly moved a step to take the catch of Tanvir in the deep. Lions 81-5 in 13.2 overs.

Harbhajan ends his spell. He's been good. Lions runs flow has looked bad and dropped badly in the last few overs. Lions 80-4 in 13 overs.

Symes hammers a six but is Ohja ends him as his ball runs into the stumps. Lions 71-4 in 11.3 overs.

A tight over from Harbhajan. Just three runs from it. Lions 65-3 in 11 overs.

An eventful over. McKenzie hammers Dhawan for the first six of the day and then Dhawan bowls a beauty to rattle his stumps. Lions 62-3 in 10 overs.

McKenzie scores a boundary. Lions will not want to lose wickets at this stage. Lions 53-2 in 9 overs.

Another good over from Dhawan. Gives away just three runs. Lions score slowing down a bit. Lions 45-2 in 8 overs.

Harbhajan strikes in his first over. Removes well settled batsman de Kock. Lions 41-2 in 6.4 overs.

Johnson gets a wicket but is very expensive giving away 15 runs including three boundaries. Lions 40-1 in 5 overs.

Johnson is hit to a boundary first ball but he gets his victim immediately. Lions 29-1 in 4.2 overs.

This time de Kock scores two to the fence as 10 runs come from the over. Lions 25-0 in 4 overs.

Two back to back boundaries in the covers from van der Dussen. That's a good over for Lions. Lions 15-0 in 3 overs.

Good bowling. Just two runs off the Coulter-Nile over. Lions 7-0 in 2 overs.

After the delay, it's back to cricketing action. Lions 5-0 in 1 over.

Match has been held up due to some floodlight issue. Players still in the ground as umpires are trying to sort out the problem.

Lions have a 2-0 record over Mumbai, but with Mumbai more familiar with Jaipur conditions, the should hold an edge.
