India vs Pakistan U19 World Cup, Dubai: India win by 40 runs

Defending champions India opened their campaign in style coasting to a 40-run win against Pakistan in a Group A match of the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup at Dubai International Stadium on Saturday.

Chasing a record total of 263, Pakistan were bowled out for 222 in 48.4 overs despite a despite a century opening stand between skipper Sami Aslam (64) and Imam ul Haq (39).

Aslam hits six boundaries in his fluent knock facing 85 balls while Imam needed 62 balls for his 39 which contained two boundaries during the 109-run opening stand.

Off break bowler Deepak Hooda wreaked havoc thereafter ripping through the middle order to claim five for 41.

Sarfaraz Khan was adjudged man of the match for his swashbuckling knock of 74. He capped a fine all-round performance taking two superb catches in the outfield and also claiming a wicket.

Having elected to bat first, India made a formidable 262-7 propelled by half centuries from Sarfaraz Khan (74) and Sanju Samson (68) who figured in a 119-run stand for the fifth wicket.

Openers Akhil Herwardkhar (41) and Ankush Bains (24) gave India a blazing start posting 64 in eight overs.

Left arm pacer Irfanullah Shan and leg spinner Karamat Ali were the pick of the Pakistan bowlers claiming two wickets apiece.

PAKISTAN INNINGS

Pakistan are bowled out for 222 in the 49th over with Aftab being being castled by a slower one from Milind.

It is all over bar the shouting despite a couple of lusty blows to the fence from Aftab. Pak 219-9 in 48 overs.

Off spinner Deepak Hooda finishes with excellent figures of 10-0-41-5.

Zia slams his second six but skies the next one to Sarfaraz who takes a good catch to give Hooda his fifth wicket. Pak 210-9 in 46.4 overs.

INDIA INNINGS

India finished strongly to make 262-7 in 50 overs to set Pakistan a formidable target.

This is the highest team total in India vs Pakistan ties in the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup.

India were propelled by contrasting half centuries by Sanju Samson (68) and Sarfaraz Khan (74) during a 119-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Openers Akhil Herwardkar (41) and Ankush Bains (24) gave India a blazing start after they won the toss and elected to bat by posting 64 without loss in eight overs.

Pakistan pegged India back thereafter with their spin trio of Karamat Ali, Zafar Gohar and Kamran Ghulam as the pitched turned out to be slow paced.

Rajasthan Royals star Samson curbed his natural attacking instincts to anchor the innings while Sarfaraz swept the ball around the park during his swashbuckling knock.

Sarfaraz slammed five boundaries and a six during his run-a-ball 74 by Samson hit just two boundaries and a six facing 101 balls for his 68.

Left arm pacer Irfanullah Shah was the pick of the bowlers claiming two for 32 while leg spinner Karamat Ali snared two for 37.

Hooda smashes Gohar to the midwicket fence to bring up the 250 of the innings in the 49th over.

India have won the toss and opted to bat first in a Group A match of the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup at Dubai International Stadium on Saturday.

India and Pakistan have already played each other at the Dubai International Stadium as they met there in the Under 19 Asia Cup on New Year’s Eve.

Pakistan won that match by two wickets but India got revenge in the final of the tournament, securing the title by 40 runs.

Saturday’s India vs Pakistan clash is a repeat of the final of the 2006 ICC U19 CWC, a low-scoring thriller played in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which Pakistan won by 38 runs to retain the title it won two years earlier in Bangladesh.
