IPL 6: SunRisers stun Pune to win by 22 runs

Some brilliant bowling performances helped SunRisers Hyderabad pull of a surprise 22-run win over Pune Warriors in Game Three of IPL6 at Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday.

While Amit Mishra and Thisara Perera impressed at the earlier stage, it was Dale Steyn’s dramatic final over where he bagged three wickets completely shattered any Pune’s hopes of putting up a fight in the end.

The Warriors were all out for 104 in the 18.5 overs as Steyn finished with best figures of three for 11 while man of the match Mishra claimed 3 for 19.

Hyderabad did not have the best of the totals to defend after their batsmen could make only 126 from 20 overs with Perera top scoring with 30 and Akshath Reddy chipping in with 27.

In reply, Hyderabad bowlers knew exactly what their responsibilities were and produced just that to ensure Pune batsmen never got an opportunity to cut loose.

Robin Uthappa (24), Ross Taylor and Abhishek Nayar who both scored 19 each looked threatening for a brief while but Pune could not stop Hyderabad celebrating their first win of the season with a new team.

Pune Warriors innings

Steyn on a roll and the last wicket falls with Dinda edging to the slip. Three wickets from four balls for Steyn.

R Sharma b Steyn 0 (1)

Another one for Steyn. Rahul Sharma is clean bowled and Steyn now is on a hat trick.

B Kumar b Steyn 3 (3b)

Steyn bowls a beauty. Sends Kumar's stumps cartwheeling. Pune 104 for 8 in 18.3 overs.
Steyn to bowl and Pune must be worrying.

Pune reach 103 for 7 in 18 overs. Mathews is the man to watch now.

A fine boundary from Mathews

M Marsh run out 7 (3b 0x4 1x6)

A freak run-out. Mathews shot hits Perera's hand and into the stumps. Marsh was way out side. Pune are 94 for 7 in 17.1 overs.

Marsh slams a big six as Pune reach 94 for six in 17 overs

R Taylor b A Reddy 19 (19b 0x4 0x6)

Things becoming difficult for Pune as they now need over 10 per over. Great bowling by Mishra as he claims three wickets giving away only 19 runs.

A Nayar c Sharma b Mishra 19 (14b, 2x4)

Mishra bowled a fine last over and got some good support form fielders in the deep and also claimed a key wicket of Nayar. Pune are 84 for 5 in 16 overs.

Nice tidy over from Steyn. From his three overs he has just given away seven runs. Pune will need some big hitting as they reach 78 for four in 15 overs.

Ishant Sharma bowls his last over and he was impressive. Has given away just 22 runs from his four overs. Pune are 72 for four in 14 overs.

Nayar brings up a much needed boundary. Something cheer for the Pune boys at the dug-out. They are 68 for 4 in 13 overs.

Pune need 70 to win from 48 balls. Game on!

Abhishek Nayar comes in. Pune need a good partnership now.

M Pandey c White b Mishra 15 (29b 0x4 0x6)

A reckless shot from Pandey and he is gone. Well bowled by Mishra. Pune are 50 for 4.

That's 50 for Pune, but still have a long way to go.

A lot will depend on Ross Taylor and he has to handle it well if Pune were to come to terms with those losses.

It's all happening out there. Mishra ends Yuvraj's run and It's not a happy time for Pune.

Yuvraj Singh st Patel b Mishra 2 (5b 0x4 0x6)

Yuvraj comes in to bat and there is a huge noise coming from the crowd cheering the star.

M Samuels c White b Perera 5 (9b 1x4 0x6)

Second wicket for Perera as Hyderabad celebrate. It's now turning to be an interesting battle.

Good start from spinner Amit Mishra gives away just two runs.

Marlon Samuels is the next batsman in.

R Uthappa c P Patel b Perera 24 (22b, 2x4, 1x6)

Uthappa is timing it nicely. Gets a nice boundary off Perera and then nicks one fine for another. Perera takes his revenge gets Uthappa caught behind.

The first big hit comes in the form of a straight six from Uthappa. Some relief for the Pune outfit as they reach 27 for no loss in 6 overs.

Pune openers struggling to come to terms with bounce and movement generated by both the Hyderabad pacers. Pune are 13 for no loss in four overs.

Steyn bowls another nice over. Runs don't seem to be coming easy for Pune as they reach 5 for no loss in 3 overs.

Hyderabad bowlers doing a good job. After Steyn, Ishant Sharma comes up with a tidy over. Pune are 3 for no loss in two overs.

Good first over from Dale Steyn. Gives away just two runs.

Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa open the innings for Pune as they chase a target of 127.

SunRisers Hyderabad's innings

It was a completely disappointing performance from Hyderabad batsmen as they finish at 126 for six in 20 overs. That was a good last over from Dinda who finished his four overs conceding 29 runs. Pune have a great change to go one up here.

A stunning catch from Dinda off Kumar and Hyderabad are 117 for 6 in 19 overs. A great spell from Bhuvneshwar Kumar as he gives away just 17 runs from his four overs.

G Vihari c Dinda b Kumar 11 (12b 1x4 0x6)

Pandey misses it in the deep and Vihari gets a reprieve.

T Perera c Pandey b Dinda 30 (18b 3x4 1x6)

Expensive last over from Samuels as Perera smashes a boundary and a six to fetch 15 runs from that over.

Fast bowler back as  Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowls. But no change of approach in Hyderabad's batting as they continue to struggle to hit the big ones.

Pune continue with spinners and Samuel picks up a wicket as White goes for a big one but fails to get the distance.

C White c Marsh b Samuels 10 (18b 0x4 0x6)

Perera comes in and smashes two consecutive boundaries off Rahul Sharma. Much needed runs for Hyderabad, reach 83 for 3.

Yuvraj continues to keep up the pressure by picking up the wicket of Reddy. Hyderabad 72 for 3 in 13 overs.

A Reddy b Yuvraj Singh 27 (30b 2x4 0x6)

It's becoming increasingly difficult for Hyderabad batsmen to play Rahul Sharma. His three overs have now cost only 10 runs.

Hyderabad need some big shots. The current runrate is not looking very impressive as they reach 67 for 2 in 11 overs

Yuvraj comes in to bowl amidst huge cheers from the crowd.

Rahul Sharma continues to keep it tight. Picks an important wicket of skipper Sangakkara and has just given away six runs in his two overs.

K Sangakkara b Sharma 15 (16b 2x4 0x6)

A magnificent pull by Reddy off Mathews but Marsh could not stop it in the deep. Hyderabad need more of this.

Rahul Sharma bowls a great first over, concedes just four runs. Hyderabad reach 50 for one in 8 overs.

Sangakkara gets his second boundary as Hyderabad reach 46 for one in 7 overs

Dinda's beauty rattles Parthiv Patel's stumps. Skipper Sangakkara comes in and opens his account with a boundary.

P Patel b Dinda 19 (18b 3x4 0x6)

Two boundaries coming at the third man area for Parthiv Patel. Hyderabad are happy.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar doing a good job. Mixing up his deliveries well. Hyderabad looking for boundaries but its not coming. Hyderabad are 21 for no loss in four overs.

Parthiv Patel punishes Dinda's first ball for a lovely boundary through the covers. But Dinda comes back well as Hyderabad reach 18 for no loss in 3 overs.

First boundary for Sunrisers coming off Akshath Reddy's bat. Pune reach 10 for no loss in 2 overs.

Pune start with a spinner. And Samuels does well giving away just four runs in the opening over.

Lalit Modi tweets... "Good to see two srilankan players both captains. Against each other. Only in Ipl u will see this" (‏@LalitKModi)
