IPL6: Gilchrist and Punjab bow out on a high crushing Mumbai by 50 runs

Kings XI Punjab and Adam Gilchrist sign off on a high as they crushed Mumbai Indians by 50 runs in the final league match of IPL6 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday.

Chasing a formidable target of 184, Mumbai lost Maxwell for zero and lost wickets at regular intervals thereafter.

Chawla struck crucial blows in successive overs remvoing Karthik and Sharma as Mumbai lost half their side fo 78 in the 12th over.

Pollard (22) tried to revive the innings but the asking rate mounting it was a tough ask for Mumbai.

Chawla had the best return of two for 20 following by Mahmood (2-24) and Sandeep (2-39).

Blistering half centuries from Azhar Mahmood (80) and Shaun Marsh (63) lifted Kings XI Punjab to 183-8 after being put into bat.

The pair posted the highest third wicket partnership in IPL6 of 148 off just 86 bals after coming together with Punjab reeling at six for two.

Marsh began dealing in boundaries at the start of his innings with his 47-ball 63 being studded with 11 hits to the fence.

Mahmood was more aggressive during the latter stages smashing four sixes and eight boundaries in his 44-ball 80.

Vohra lifted Punjab with an eight-ball cameo of 20 not out.

Malinga who went for 39 in his four overs claimed three for 39 to become the first bowler to claim 100 IPL wickets.

MUMBAI INDIANS INNINGS

Kulkarni cannot bat because he is injured so Mumbai are all out for 133 and lose by 51 runs.

Gilchrist bowls the last over in his final IPL match in front of his adoring fans and takes the wicket of Harbhajan with his first ball.
